    1. 1.        Cabinet approves Agreement between India and Morocco on Mutual Legal Assistance in Civil and Commercial Matters
    • Service of summons and other judicial documents or processes;
    • taking of evidence in civil matters;
    • production, identification or examination of documents, recordings;
    • The execution of a Letter of Request for taking of evidence in civil matters; and
    • Recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards.

     

    1. 2.        Cabinet approves signing and ratifying the Extradition Agreement between India and Morocco
    • The Agreement will provide a strong legal base for the extradition of fugitive offenders who are accused of economic offences, terrorism and other serious offences in one Contracting State and found in another Contracting State.
    • This Treaty will also strengthen bilateral relations to deal with criminal elements acting against the national interest of both India and Morocco.

     

    1. 3.        Cabinet approves leasing out six airports - Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru through PPP
    • "In-principle" approval for leasing out six airports of AAI viz. Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Mangaluru for operation, management and development under Public Private Partnership (PPP) through Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC).
    • Constitution of an Empowered Group of Secretaries headed by CEO, NITI Aayog with Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs and Secretary, Department of Expenditure to decide on any issue falling beyond the scope of PPPAC.

     

    1. 4.        Cabinet apprised of India joining as Member of Advanced Motor Fuels Technology Collaboration Programme under International Energy Agency
    • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has been apprised of India joining as Member of Advanced Motor Fuels Technology Collaboration Programme (AMF TCP) under International Energy Agency (IEA) on 9thMay, 2018. 
    • AMF TCP works under the framework of International Energy Agency (IEA) to which India has "Association" status since 30thMarch, 2017.

     

    1. 5.        Cabinet approves Laying down procedure and mechanism for sale of enemy shares
    • ‘In principle’ approval has been accorded for sale of enemy shares under the Custody of Ministry of Home Affairs/ Custodian of Enemy Property of India (CEPI), as per sub-section 1 of section 8A of the Enemy Property Act, 1968.
    • Department of Investment and Public Asset Management has been authorized under the provisions of sub-section 7 of section 8A of the Enemy Property Act, 1968, to sell the same.
    • Sale proceeds are to be deposited as disinvestment proceeds in the Government Account maintained by Ministry of Finance.

     

    1. 6.        Cabinet approves filling of Padur Strategic Petroleum Reserves at Padur, Karnataka by overseas National Oil Companies
    • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the filling of Padur Strategic Petroleum Reserves(SPR) at Padur, Karnataka by overseas National Oil Companies (NOCs).
    • The SPR facility at Padur is an underground rock cavern with a total capacity of 2.5 million metric tonnes (MMT) having four compartments of 0.625 MMT each.
    • The filling of the SPR under PPP model is being undertaken to reduce budgetary support of Government of India.

     

    1. 7.        Cabinet approves Amendment to the Central Universities Act, 2009 for setting up of Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh
    • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved setting up of a Central Tribal University in Andhra Pradesh. 
    • The "Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh" will be set up in Relli village of Vizianagaram District as provided under the Thirteenth Schedule to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014 (No. 6 of 2014). 
    • Cabinet has also approved the provision of funds of Rs. 420 crore for the first phase expenditure towards establishment of the Central Tribal University.

     

    1. 8.        Cabinet approves strategic disinvestment of 100% Govt. of India’s equity in the Dredging Corporation of India Ltd. (DCIL)
    • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has given ‘in principle’ approval for strategic disinvestment of 100% Government of India's shares in DCIL to consortium of four ports namely, Vishakhapatnam Port Trust, Paradeep Port Trust, Jawahar Lal Nehru Port Trust and Kandla Port Trust.
    • Presently the Government of India holds 73.44% shares in Dredging Corporation of India Limited.

     

    1. 9.        In a first, DRS to be used in ICC Women's T20 tournament  
    • The Decision Review System (DRS), using ball-tracking and edge detection technology, will be implemented from this year's International Cricket Council (ICC) women's World Twenty20 edition, which is slated to be held from November 9 to November 24 in the West Indies.
    • 10 teams - Windies, Australia, England, India, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Ireland will take part in the tournament.

     

    1. 10.    Trump fired US Attorney General 'Jeff Sessions'
    • US President Donald Trump fired the country's Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a year after he recused himself from an inquiry into the President's links to Russia.
    • 'Jeff Sessions' was sworn in as the 84th Attorney General of the United States on February 9, 2017
    • Michael R. Pence. Matthew Whitaker, a critic of the Russia investigation, has been appointed the acting Attorney General.

     

    1. 11.    Nainital Lake water withdrawal limit cut to 8 mn litres/day
    • Uttarakhand Nainital district administration decided to reduce the water supply from 16 million litres water per day (MLD) to 8 MLD in view the critical condition of Naini lake.
    • The kidney-shaped Nainital Lake, surrounded by hills, is situated at an elevation of 1,938 metres, with a width of 360 metres and a length of 1,442 metres at present.
    • Over the last century, the lake’s depth has roughly gone down by 10.15 metres.

     

    1. 12.    Supreme Court gave nod for a separate High Court for Andhra Pradesh
    • The new court, which will be the 25th High Court in the country, will start functioning from 1 January 2019 in Amravati.
    • Presently, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have a common High Court situated at Hyderabad. The existing court will from next year be known as the Telangana High Court.
    • The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, which resulted in the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, also has a provision for separate High Courts.

     

    1. 13.    India participates in China's First International Import Expo
    • It is the world's first import-themed national-level expo that will feature enterprise and business exhibitions, country pavilions for trade and investment.
    • Leaders from 18 countries, including Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan participate in the six-day mega event in Shanghai, which is aimed at exhibiting China's import potential. 12 countries - Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, Mexico, Pakistan, Russia, South Africa, Vietnam and the UK are the "Guest of Honour" at the mega business event.
    • The expo is being held amid China's trade war with the US, which slapped additional tariffs on Chinese goods worth about USD 250 billion, demanding Beijing to bring down the trade deficit amounting to USD 375 billion.

     

    1. 14.    Notes of a Dream The Authorized Biography of A.R. Rahman By Krishna Trilok Launched
    • Oscar-winning musician A.R. Rahman, whose biography Notes of a Dream: The Authorized Biography of A.R. Rahman launched in Mumbai the book journey for him and took him to those corners of his life which have remained candid for a long time.
    1. 15.    Rs. 113.36 crore released for redevelopment of 6 border states under Border Area Development Programme: MHA
    • The 6 states where the amount was released were: Assam, Nagaland, Sikkim, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand.
    • With this release the total amount released so far during this fiscal to the States having International Border is Rs. 637.98 crore.
    • Earlier, in September 2018, the center released Rs.399.24 crore for 10 states along the international borders under this programme.

     

    1. 16.    China unveiled 'Heavenly Palace' space station, as International Space Station retires in 2024
    • With a lifespan of roughly 10 years, China's Tiangong space station, otherwise known as Heavenly Palace is set to become the replacement of the International Space Station, which is due to retire in 2024.
    • Three astronauts will be permanently stationed in the 60-tonne orbiting lab, which will enable the crew to conduct biological and microgravity research.
    • The International Space Station (ISS) - a collaboration between the United States, Russia, Canada, Europe and Japan - has been in operation since 1998, but is due to be retired in 2024.
    • China will then have the only space station in orbit, though it will be much smaller than the ISS which weighs 400 tonnes and is as large as a football pitch.

     

    1. 17.    The Fire Burns Blue: A History of Womens Cricket in India, co-authored by Karunya Keshav and Sidhanta Pathak
    • The book is co-authored by sports journalists Karunya Keshav and Sidhanta Pathak. It is published by Westland Sport, a new imprint of Westland Publications.
    • It will provide a detailed narrative of cricket, from its origin to present day.

     

    1. 18.    Pakistan-China luxury bus service launched from Lahore to Kashgar
    • The Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) and Shuja Express together launched the bus service between Pakistan and China to facilitate tourists.
    • It is part of an initiative to connect the two countries via road under the USD 60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
    • Earlier, India lodged strong protests with China and Pakistan over the proposed bus service between the two countries through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
    • Pakistan rejected protests by India against the bus service to China.
    • Launched in 2015, the CPEC is a planned network of roads, railways and energy projects linking China’s resource-rich Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region with Pakistan’s strategic Gwadar Port on the Arabian Sea.
    1. 19.    N Ram chosen for Raja Ram Mohan Roy Award by Press Council of India (PCI)
    • The award will be presented on November 16, 2018, on the occasion of the National Press Day.
    • Award winners under various categories are listed below:

    1. 21.    Mo bus service launched in Odisha
    • Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the technology-driven and citizen-friendly ‘Mo bus’ service in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
    • The bus has some facilities such as free wi-fi, CCTV surveillance, public information display system and on-board announcements.
    • It will cover 9 routes in Bhubaneswar in the first phase. 
    • Mo Bus mobile app will also be launched through which passengers can book tickets and find the locations of the vehicle.
