    1. INS Rana at Surabaya to participate in Indian Navy – Indonesian Navy Bilateral Exercise ‘ Samudra Shakti’

    • INS Rana of the Eastern Fleet based at Visakhapatnam under the Eastern Naval Command is on deployment to the South East Asia and arrived at the port of Surabaya to participate in the inaugural edition of Indian Navy – Indonesian Navy Bilateral Exercise ‘Samudra Shakti’ scheduled from 12 to 18 Nov 18.

    2.  Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Trivandrum among 6 airports to be privatised

    • The Union Cabinet gave its approval for leasing out six airports namely Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mangaluru, Trivandrum, and Guwahati - for operating, managing and developing under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
    • This comes 12 years after Delhi and Mumbai airports were privatised in 2006.
    • The private player will hold at least 75 per cent stake.

    3.  Harmanpreet Kaur becomes first Indian women to hit century in T20I cricket

    • Captain Harmanpreet Kaur became the first ever Indian woman to smash a hundred in T20I cricket, achieving the feat against New Zealand in the Women's World T20 2018.
    • The 29-year-old scored 103 runs off 51 balls, which included eight sixes and seven fours.
    • Further, Harmanpreet is only the third cricketer to smash a century in Women's World T20.

    4. Thirty third ASEAN Summit Begins In Singapore

    • Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong is the Chairman of the Summit, which will continue till 15th November along with other related summits like East Asia Summit (EAS), Regional Comprehensive Economic Summit, (RCEP) and ASEAN plus summits.
    • Fintech Conference which is a part of Fintech festival will also take place alongside.

     5. World leaders marked the centenary of the Great War Armistice

    • World leaders gathered to lead global commemorations marking 100 years since the end of First World War in Paris.
    • Around 70 leaders, including U.S. and Russian Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, marked the centenary of the 1918 Armistice in the French capital at 11 a.m. local time (10:00 GMT). 
    • The leaders paid homage to the fallen soldiers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe.
    • The memorial ceremony included classical music and the reading aloud of letters by the First World War soldiers.

    6.  Adeeb quit KSMDFC

    • K.T.Adeeb, a relative of Kerala’s Minister for Minority Welfare K.T.Jaleel, has resigned from the post of General Manager, Kerala State Minorities Development Finance Corporation (KSMDFC).
    • This is after the Muslim Youth League (MYL) accused the Minister of nepotism in Mr. Adeeb’s appointment.
    • The opposition alleged that Adeeb was posted without giving any advertisement and qualifications diluted to favour him.
    • Mr. Adeeb, a senior manager with South Indian Bank, has expressed his wish to return to his parent organisation.

    7. IMD alerted Tamil Nadu that the Cyclone Gaja will bring rain for 2 days

    • India Meteorological Department (IMD), Under the Ministry of Earth Sciences Government of India, officials said that the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclone.
    • It has been named ‘Gaja’ by Sri Lanka.
    • The cyclone lay 840 km east of Chennai and 880 km east of Nagapattinam.
    • North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry are likely to get good rain on November 14 and 15.

    8.  Swati Chaturvedi won the 2018 London Press Freedom award

    • Swati Chaturvedi has won the 2018 London Press Freedom Award for Courage.
    • She is a freelance journalist who has been the target of online trolling and harassment for her investigative reports.
    • Ms.Chaturvedi won the award for her work in exposing the “IT cell” within the Bharatiya Janata Party for keeping an army of angry trolls. 
    • The award ceremony displayed the importance of press freedom and safety of journalists, especially in the wake of the killing of Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi embassy in Istanbul last month.

    9. Book on Mouth Cancer Arivu Released

    • November 7 is observed as National Cancer Awareness Day in India each year. The day is marked out to teach people to combat the Cancer.
    • Dr Murali Mohan Chuntharu, a Dental Surgeon and also DK Home Guard Commandant written a book named “Arivu”, which explains about Mouth Cancer and prevention of the disease.

    10. US likely to stop refueling of Saudi led coalition aircraft in Yemen war

    • The Saudi Arabia-led coalition fighting in Yemen stopped the refuelling arrangement with the U.S. as Riyadh-backed troops took the main hospital in the strategic port city of Hodeidah, Yemen.
    • This move of halting the United States' assistance in refuelling the coalition aircraft is after Washington’s backing of the war effort faces increased scrutiny following international outrage over journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder.
    • Saudi Arabia had decided to request an end to US aerial refuelling for its operations in Yemen because it could now handle it by itself. 
    • Apart from refuelling, the US provides limited intelligence support to the Saudi-led coalition and sells it weaponry used in Yemen’s war. 
    • US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said that the United States would play a continuing role to help the Saudi-led coalition and Yemeni forces minimise civilian casualties and expand humanitarian efforts.
    • He also suggested plans to build up Yemeni troops.

    11. Tripura government to acquire 26% shares of Palatana thermal project from IL and FS

    • Palatana gas thermal power project is a 726.6 MW gas-based power project. 
    • It is run by ONGC Tripura Power Company (OTPC). 
    • Tripura owns 0.5 % share in the project. IL&FS will be selling its entire 26 % in the Palatana thermal project.
    • Tripura is in the process of opening a dialogue with IL&FS to buy the 26 % shares. 
    • IL&FS purchased 26 % equity shares at Rs 2.91 billion.
    • Now, the equity shares are estimated at Rs 3 billion.
    • Ministry of power allocated over 58 % energy from the Palatana project to north-eastern states.

    12. India marks Armistice day in France - 100 years of World War 1

    • Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, on a three-day visit to Paris, represented India at the Armistice of World War I centenary commemoration. He inaugurated the Indian Armed Forces Memorial at Villers Guislain in France, the first India-built war memorial in the country, as a tribute to Indian soldiers who lost their lives during World War I.
    • Nearly 1.3 million Indian soldiers fought during World War I, out of which 1,40,000 Indian soldiers took part in World War I in France and Belgium.
    • The main motif of the Indian War Memorial at Villers Guislain is the Indian national emblem which consists of Ashoka lions along with a bronze wreath, plaque, and lances which have been designed in India.
    • Brief About World War I: World War I (or the First World War) was a global war which began on July 28, 1914 and lasted until November 11, 1918.
    • The war lasted exactly four years, three months and 14 days. 135 countries took part in World War I, and nearly 10 million people died while fighting.
    • The war was ended by the signing of many different treaties, the most important being the Treaty of Versailles.

    13. Indian Wrestler Bajrang Punia becomes World No.1 in 65kg category

    • The 24-year-old, who won silver in World Championships recently, is on top of the United World Wrestling rankings with 96 points, 30 points ahead of the second-placed wrestler.
    • He's the lone male Indian to figure in top-10 in any category. Cuban Alejandro Enrique Vlades Tobier is a distant second with 66 points.
    • Russia's Akhmed Chakaev (62) is in third place.

    14. Union Minister Ananth Kumar passes away at 59 in Bengaluru

    • He held two portfolios in the NDA Government; of Parliamentary affairs and Chemicals and Fertilizers. Kumar had represented the Bengaluru south parliamentary constituency six times since 1996.
    • In 1998, he was inducted into the Union cabinet headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the minister for civil aviation and was instrumental in the signing of the MoU for the Bengaluru international airport.
    • Kumar was the youngest minister in the Vajpayee cabinet.

    15. Fortune magazine sold to Thai businessman for 1,090 crore

    • US publisher Meredith Corporation has agreed to sell Fortune magazine and its related businesses to Thai businessman Chatchaval Jiaravanon (an owner of the Charoen Pokphand Group conglomerate) for $150 million (₹1,090 crore).
    • In September, Meredith sold Time magazine to billionaire Marc Benioff and his wife, Lynne, for $190 million.

    16. Ashok Kumar Gupta appointed as the chairman of Competition Commission of India

    • It was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
    • Gupta would replace acting chairperson Sudhir Mital.
    • The appointment would be till October 25, 2022 -- the date when he attains the age of 65 years -- or until further orders, whichever is the earliest.
