Nasim Zaidi takes over as new chief election commissioner

The new chief election commissioner, S Nasim Zaidi, on Sunday said the EC would soon devise a long-term strategic plan aimed at strengthening the institution, making the election operation more efficient and raising voter awareness. Zaidi, who was appointed as election commissioner in August 2012 and elevated to CEC's post last week, resolved to take forward the poll panel's vision of "free and fair elections based on error-free and authenticated electoral roll with higher level of participation of voters with inclusiveness".
