Common Law Admission test or commonly known as CLAT is a law entrance examination conducted by 14 National Law Universities on a rotation basis. The syllabus of CLAT which consists majorly of 5 sections like Quantitative aptitude (Maths ), Verbal ability (English ), Logical Reasoning, Current affairs and legal aptitude, is designed in such a way that students of all streams (Science, Humanities, Commerce ) can take CLAT. The only thing required is zeal and passion to make a career in law.
Syllabus of Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)
Quantitative aptitude (20 marks): Mostly the questions asked are from the topics taught till class 10th. You need to do practice and a lot of practice by solving as many questions as you can from each section. The questions of our assignments and those given by the faculty of CLAT Gurukul are in accordance with the latest CLAT Pattern. Verbal Ability (40 marks): � Reading comprehension -Reading a passage and answering the questions based on it. The type of passage may be a factual or an abstract one. Those whose hobby has been reading books do get an advantage over those who hate reading but as they say it�s never too late. We, at CLAT Gurukul, encourage our students to develop the habit of reading by reading standard newspapers and magazines which will not only improve their reading speed but will also increase their vocabulary power. � Para jumbled sentences- Rearranging the sentences to form a meaningful one. � Parts of speech � Spotting the errors � Agreement of the verb with the subject � Phrasal verbs Logical Reasoning (40 marks): CLAT is for would be lawyers and presence of mind is must for a lawyer to handle a variety of cases which require presence of mind and out of the box thinking .The questions asked in this section are designed keeping in mind of the above said facts . � Logical Deduction � Seating Arrangement � Syllogisms � Deductive reasoning � Number series � Letter and symbol series � Direction sense based problem � Blood relations � Critical Reasoning Current affairs and General Knowledge (50 marks): The questions asked are from topics of static General Knowledge like History, Geography, Constitution etc. and from topics of current affairs like events of national and international importance, important appointments, discoveries etc . A brief description of the topics is given below: � Questions from events of national and international importance � Indian History � Indian Constitution and Political set-up � Schedules of the Indian Constitution � Landmark cases on Constitution of India � Famous sites in India � Pioneers in Science, inventions and discoveries � Important dates � Different organs of UNO � Games and Sports Legal Reasoning (50 marks): Another important section asked in Common Law Admission Test or CLAT. So important that Law schools use the score of this section in case of a tie (when 2 or more students have got the same score). Majority of the students who take CLAT are 12th passed who have no idea of what the legal reasoning is all about. This topic is new for them. As a matter of fact, this section is highly scoring and it doesn�t take more than 25 to 30 minutes provided the students have practiced a lot from the last years� question papers and the study materials provided by us. (Around 4 to 5 questions are related to legal maxims and some questions are facts and principle based.
